Ladies Aid – 1986

History

The Ladies Aid was organized shortly after the organization of the church. This group was affiliated for a time with the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, a nationwide organization for Lutheran women. The Ladies have played a major role in the congregation, helping out with various service projects. At the time of the 35th anniversary, the president was Mrs. Elsie Wisehart, at the 50th – Mrs. Edna Hoener, at the 75th –  Mrs. Eda Rhodus and at the 100th – Mrs. Mary Straughan.  Through the years, the ladies have been involved with: funeral dinners, the annual Christmas dinner, greeting card ministry, Lenten meals, meals for the circuit pastors, meals for children’s Christmas practice, donations to congregational activities, and cheer baskets for the needy. Their major fundraiser for many years has been a fall rummage sale.

Bourbon food Pantry

The ladies have adopted the Bourbon Food Pantry as one of their projects. They are asking congregation members to donate money or non-perishable items. Donations may be placed in the baskets located in the church narthex. Canned Fruit is especially needed. Thanks to donations from the Ladies Aid, the congregation and Thrivent Action Teams, Concordia has been able to regularly support the food pantry.

Back Pack Program

The ladies also support the Bourbon Back Pack Program. This program has seen a growing need. This need is expected to rise through the current school year. Monetary donations are appreciated. If you wish to purchase items, a list of food items has been developed by the Backpack organizers to help with your choices. The list includes: Cheese Crackers, Vienna Sausages, Potted Meat, Instant Oatmeal, Ramen Noodle Soup Packages. Donations may be placed in the baskets located in the church narthex. Please help the children in the Bourbon/Leasburg area.

Best Choice Labels

PLEASE continue to save Best Choice Labels. The money derived from the redemption of these labels is used by the ladies for church related projects and for assisting others in the community. Joyce Walsh is in charge of this collection. Any question, ask Joyce.
